Meet Holly Le Claire: The Thinking Behind the Work
Le Claires was built by two people with different but complementary ways of looking at a business.
Dominic often begins with the wider commercial picture: what is changing, where the opportunity might be and which decisions are taking up too much of a founder’s attention. Holly has an extraordinary ability to take that picture apart, understand how the different pieces connect and work out what needs to happen in practice.
She sees the detail without losing sight of the business behind it.
That combination has shaped Le Claires from the beginning. It is one of the reasons we look beyond marketing activity, ask more questions before recommending anything and care so much about whether the work will genuinely strengthen the business.
Experience Built Inside Major Retail Brands
Before co-founding Le Claires, Holly built her experience working with some of the best-known names in British retail and ecommerce, including John Lewis, Joules and Harbour Lifestyle.
Her work has covered customer experience, ecommerce, retention, digital strategy and the systems needed to make those areas work together. That has meant looking beyond individual campaigns or website changes to understand how customers move through a business, where revenue is being lost and what needs to improve behind the scenes.
Working at that scale develops a particular kind of commercial discipline. Decisions need to be supported by evidence. Customer experience has to connect with operations. New ideas need to be deliverable, measurable and worthwhile.
Holly brings that same quality of thinking to Le Claires, but applies it to the realities of independent and founder-led businesses.
The budgets may be different and the teams may be smaller, but the need for good decisions is no less serious.
Making Complexity Easier to Act On
Many businesses do not struggle because they lack ideas. They struggle because too many things compete for attention at once.
The website needs improving. Email is inconsistent. Customer retention could be stronger. A new product is launching. The team is stretched. Several systems are not communicating properly, and nobody has enough time to step back and decide what matters most.
Holly is particularly good in those situations.
She can move between the customer journey, commercial performance, website, technology and operational detail without treating them as separate problems. She works out what connects, where the real constraint lies and which change is likely to make the greatest difference.
That does not always result in the biggest or most obvious piece of work. Sometimes a business believes it needs a new platform when the more immediate problem is unclear positioning. Sometimes it wants more acquisition activity when existing customers are not being given a reason to return. Sometimes the right technology is already in place but has never been configured around how the business actually operates.
Holly’s instinct is to understand the problem properly before reaching for a solution.
Honest Advice, Including When the Answer Is No
One of the principles behind Le Claires is that we should earn good money by helping clients build stronger businesses, not by selling work they do not need.
Holly embodies that.
She is not interested in forcing a business into a predetermined package or recommending a platform simply because we know how to use it. If the existing website can be improved rather than replaced, she will say so. If another specialist is better placed to help, she will recommend one. If the timing is wrong or the business needs to address something more fundamental first, she will explain why.
That honesty is not a lack of commercial ambition. Holly wants clients to grow, improve profitability and create businesses that work better for the people running them.
She also understands that independent businesses cannot afford to waste time and money following every new trend. Recommendations have to make sense in the context of the business, its customers, its available resources and what the team can realistically sustain.
Connecting Strategy with Delivery
Strategy is only useful if someone can turn it into action.
Holly’s experience sits across both sides of that divide. She can help shape the commercial direction, but she also understands the platforms, processes and practical decisions involved in delivering it.
That might mean improving how a Shopify store is structured, developing a clearer customer journey, identifying gaps in retention, bringing several systems together or working out what a team needs to manage internally.
This is an important part of the Le Claires approach. We do not want to leave clients with an impressive-looking document and another long list of things to coordinate. We want the thinking to lead to practical progress.
Holly helps make sure it does.
A Different Perspective on Independent Business
Large organisations have access to teams of specialists, established systems and considerable amounts of data. Independent businesses are often expected to make equally important decisions with far fewer resources.
The founder may be responsible for strategy, sales, people, operations, marketing and cash flow in the same week. A decision about the website may also affect fulfilment, customer service, stock management and the team’s workload.
Holly understands those connections. She respects the ambition of independent businesses without ignoring the pressures behind them.
Her approach is practical, direct and grounded in what the business can actually support. She is not trying to turn every independent company into a smaller version of a national brand. She helps businesses strengthen the qualities that already make them valuable while introducing the structure and expertise needed for the next stage.
That belief sits at the heart of Le Claires. Independent businesses deserve serious commercial thinking, delivered in a way that makes sense for them.
Two Perspectives, One Approach
Holly and Dominic do not always approach a problem from the same direction, which is precisely why the partnership works.
Dominic may spot the broader opportunity or question the assumption behind a brief. Holly will test how the idea works commercially and operationally, identify what needs to be true and turn it into something deliverable.
Together, they challenge the initial thinking, refine the options and arrive at a stronger answer than either perspective would produce alone.
Clients experience that through the way Le Claires works. We listen before prescribing, connect commercial decisions with practical delivery and remain honest about where we can create value.
A great deal of that comes from Holly.
The Thinking Behind Le Claires
Holly may not be the loudest person in the room or the most enthusiastic self-promoter, but her influence runs through Le Claires.
It is there in the questions we ask, the standards we set and the care we take before recommending a course of action. It is there in our focus on customer experience, retention and the systems behind sustainable growth. Most importantly, it is there in our belief that good businesses deserve good thinking.
Le Claires would not be the business it is without her.
If your business is facing an important decision and would benefit from clear commercial thinking alongside practical experience, let’s have a conversation.
