The Challenge

Indie Cambridge - the go-to folks championing the city’s independent business community - was preparing to launch the CambridgeLife App: a curated guide to the best of indie Cambridge, from shops and cafés to events and services.

With the app’s build and core structure underway, the team was looking for external support to sense-check the user journey, refine the design feel, simplify content, and shape a compelling launch plan that would resonate with both members and app users.

Our Role

Le Claires Digital worked alongside Indie Cambridge in a collaborative capacity - offering input across strategy, content, and early-stage rollout support.

Our contributions focused on four key areas:

1. Design & User Journey Suggestions

  • Provided feedback on layout, styling, and in-app navigation based on UX best practices

  • Suggested simplified menu labels (e.g. Stories, Offers, Indies) to make the experience more user-friendly

  • Helped align the look and feel of the app with Indie Cambridge’s warm, community-focused tone

2. Content & Messaging

  • Refined key in-app copy including headings, welcome messages, and descriptions

  • Helped maintain brand consistency and tone of voice across listings and app sections

  • Supported the creation of public-facing copy for launch posts, emails, and member updates

3. User Feedback & Recommendations

  • Helped collate and synthesise early focus group feedback

  • Highlighted common usability issues and areas for content clarity

  • Shared prioritised suggestions to help shape Indie Cambridge’s post-launch roadmap

4. Launch Support & Ideas

  • Provided light-touch support on planning for the launch campaign

  • Offered ideas around visuals, incentives, and messaging to build early awareness

  • Collaborated on creative direction for social and email content in the run-up to go-live

The Result

The CambridgeLife App launched with a warm reception from the local community, strong early downloads, and positive feedback from both members and users.

Our role wasn’t to build the app - but to help make sure it felt just right. By acting as a sounding board, refining the details, and contributing creative and strategic input, we were proud to play a small part in the journey.
